Today is international cat day… a day where we celebrate our furry feline friends. 

Whether you love them or not, you have to admit that cats are pretty amazing animals! 

We did some research and discovered some really interesting (and bizarre) facts about these pretty pets…

1. Cats sleep for two-thirds – almost 70% – of their lives, usually spending between 13 and 16 hours of the day asleep.

2. There are over 500 million domestic cats in the world.

3. Cats only sweat through their paws.

4. A group of cats is called a clowder.

5. A cat has the ability to jump up to six times its length.

6. Cats are unable to taste sweet things.

7. The Maine Coon is the largest breed of domesticated cat.

8. A cat can travel at a top speed of approximately 49 km over a short distance.

9. When a family cat died in ancient Egypt, family members would mourn by shaving off their eyebrows.

10. The oldest cat on record was Crème Puff from Austin, Texas, who lived from 1967 to August 6, 2005, three days after her 38th birthday.
