Selena Gomez was forced to delete a photo from her Instagram feed after a barrage of complaints were made against her regarding the snap.
The photo, which featured Selena and a friend at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi was branded offensive as the singer had her ankles exposed.
Another photo was also slammed as it showed Selena and her friends, including Kendall Jenner, waving their arms in the air and laughing – acts which are reported to be frowned upon in a mosque. This photo remains on Selena’s Instagram feed.
Many commenters did not appreciate Selena’s photos of her time at the mosque, writing: “why purposely go to a sacred place and do something considered disrespectful?” Another commenter wrote: “Just because you’re not Muslim doesn’t mean you don’t have to follow Muslim tradition in a Muslim place.”
Though the singer deleted the photo from her account, she has not yet commented on the controversy.
