Blaze in Dublin city centre leaves hundreds without electricity today
Following the outbreak of a fire in an electrical unit on Dublin's Baggot Street earlier today, it has been established that more than 200 businesses and residential customers have been left without power.
According to numerous reports, four units of the Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene of the blaze, with officials closing the busy city centre street as emergency services attempted to control the fire.
It is understood that the fire broke out in an underground 10kW ESB substation – a unit which provides electricity to the surrounding area – and ultimately caused traffic congestion as motorists were forced to find alternative routes in the city this afternoon.

Taking to Twitter to update the public on developments, Dublin Fire Brigade tweeted: "We've 4 units and a DO at a electricity sub-station on fire. Awaiting @ESBNetworks before firefighting can start."
Thankfully, the blaze was brought under control at approximately 1.25 pm, with authorities again using Twitter to fill us in on the repercussions of the blaze, writing: "The Baggot St fire is now under control, @ESBNetworks moving in to assess the situation #powercut #D2 #Dublin #fire."
There have been no reported injuries as a result of today's incident, and electricity is likely to return at approximately 10pm this evening.
