Zayn Malik is finally casting off the shackles of One Direction with his first solo single, Pillowtalk.

The song and video dropped in the early hours of this morning, and we have to admit we're liking his work so far.

Pillowtalk is just slightly NSFW, featuring Zayn, Gigi Hadid… and a few lotus-flower vaginas. A few things we noticed:

Despite claiming in an interview with Zane Lowe yesterday that he and Ms Hadid are just 'friends,' Zayn can't keep his hands off her in this video.

 

It's a huge change from One Direction's videos
Lots of abstract colour, lotus flowers and paint pouring down people's faces. It's no Steal My Girl.

Any shots of him on his own, staring moodily in the camera, automatically made us cringe. Sorry, Zayn.

We're beginning to think that next Friday should just be called Zayn day as the hottie is not only releasing his first solo single, but he's also doing his first solo interview with Graham Norton.

The ex 1D star teased his single on social media this morning, taking to Twitter to show what we believe to be the cover of his hotly anticipated single.

In the picture, Mr Malik is lying topless, and across him is the name of the new song, Pillow Talk.

And, of course his fans went into meltdown, with one Twitter user saying: "I'm gifting 100 copies to people to get it to #1 follow me," while others posted pictures of excitement.

Another die hard fan wrote: "you are so talented and deserve the world. This will be your year. Can't wait to see what the future holds for you #PillowTalk."

It then wasn't long before he got the song trending on Twitter. Let's just hope it lives up to expectations.
