John Carney's newest offering Sing Street is already generating a huge Irish buzz ahead of its release this week, but it's been making waves on the other side of the pond too.

The film, set in 1980s Dublin and telling the story of an awkward teen (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) who starts his own band to impress a girl (Lucy Boynton), has been doing the international film festival circuit over the last few months – and it happened to catch the eye of one very famous rapper.

After seeing Sing Street over in the US, hip-hop legend Jay-Z was apparently so impressed that he personally made contact with Carney.

"John [Carney] got an email from Jay-Z to say he loved the movie," 16-year-old Walsh-Peelo told the Irish Independent this week.

And it seems Bey's husband wasn't the only musician who was impressed with the film, which features tunes from bands like Duran Duran, The Cure and Spandau Ballet.

"[At the premiere] Sting was sitting next to me… apparently he loved the movie," Walsh-Peelo added.

Sing Street doesn't get its official cinema release here until March 17, but it was the opening film for last month's Jameson Dublin Film Festival, and it received a massive standing ovation at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah back in January.

"It’s kind of a memoir of my days in school, and a school band back in the Eighties in Dublin," says Carney.

First her daughter, now her mum… Jennifer Maguire is keeping it in the family with promotion for her new RTÉ series, Bridget and Eamon.

The actress and comedian shared a brilliant family throwback snap from the Eighties on social media this morning, and now we can see exactly where she got the inspiration for her Bridget costume.

While Mrs. Maguire was no doubt a far better mother than the chain-smoking Bridget, the two definitely share a similar style:

"Just found this old pic. My Ma aka Bridget!! All she needs is the fag and glasses," Jennifer wrote alongside the old Communion Day snap.

And just last month Jen got her baby daughter in on the fun, dressing up little Florence as a mini-Bridget, complete with wig, dressing gown and glasses.

Now all we need is her husband Lau Zamparelli with a ginger wig and bad suit á la Eamon.

Um… maybe not.

We've seen enough flashback episodes of Friends to know what Rachel Green looked like as a teen, but it turns out Jennifer Aniston looked almost identical to her in the early days.

Years before she got her breakout role on the NBC sitcom, Jennifer starred in another TV comedy called Molloy – with none other than The Big Bang Theory's Mayim Bialik.

Mayim took to Instagram this week to share an amazing throwback of herself aged 14 with a 21-year-old Jennifer beside her.

"Yes this is me and Jennifer Aniston in my childhood bedroom. We did a show together before I did 'Blossom.' #tbt" wrote Mayim next to the sepia-tinted snap.

Anyone else see the resemblance?

Last year Mayim shared another – and equally hilarious – early Nineties throwback, this time showing Jen rocking dark, almost black hair and a tartan miniskirt.

Oh-so emo.

We are LOVING these blasts from the past – wonder how Jen feels about them, though?
