With three bank holidays coming up over the summer months, it's a great time to plan an extended weekend getaway.

Even if money is tight, some investigation on flight comparison sites is bound to throw up a few great bank holiday flight deals that will make your dream of a European mini-break all the more accessible.

Here are a few low-cost destinations that won't leave you out of pocket for a few days accommodation and spending!

Dubrovnik, Croatia
This gorgeous walled city sits on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, so if you're looking for a mini sun holiday, this is definitely for you. Walk around the pedestrian-only old town at your leisure, head to the beach or enjoy some amazing fresh seafood in one of the city's many informal eateries. July and August are peak season, so if you're thinking bank holidays, aim for May when the city is quieter and accommodation is cheaper.

Brussels, Belgium
The Belgium capital is known for being a city of contrasts – it's got a great mix of quirky shops and side streets combined with historical sites and a modern business area. Belgium as a whole is famous for its chocolate and beer, so ditch the clean eating goals for the weekend and indulge in some treats.

Prague, Czech Republic
Prague has escaped the Czech Republic's dark history and emerged bright and buzzing – the perfect city for a weekend full of sightseeing, strolling along cobblestone streets and drinking some seriously great beer. In the evening, take a look around the grounds of Prague Castle (open til midnight) for a final dose of culture before bed.

Lisbon, Portugal
The sun-kissed Portuguese capital is set against the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean. Head to the main beach areas of Cascais and Estoril for surfing and swimming, or stay among the steep hills of the city to take in the beautiful architecture combined with informal whitewashed walls and terracotta roofs. The city really comes alive at night – check out the bohemian Bairro Alto quarter for laneway upon laneway of packed bars.
