Bruno Langley

Former Coronation Street star Bruno Langley has spoken out for the first time after being charged with two counts of sexual assault.

The 34-year-old was given a 12-month community order last month after he pleaded guilty to groping two women at a Manchester night club.

It's understood the father-of-one said he had been drinking heavily, and claims he can't remember the incident taking place.

Speaking to The Sunday Mirror, he said: “Someone texted, saying ‘Do you remember what happened?’ I said I’d no idea and thought I’d done the usual thing of falling over or something. They explained my behaviour. I was embarrassed, shocked by my actions.”

Under his sentencing, Bruno must undergo rehabilitation and adhere to a 7am to 7pm curfew for one year.

He was also ordered to pay each victim £250 and is required to sign the UK's Sex Offenders' Register for the next five years.

The actor insisted he was “truly sorry” for his crimes, admitting there is “no excuse” for his actions.

"I have no excuse, no one forced me to drink to such an extreme, but it is hard to explain why I would do anything as dreadful as that. It must have been awful for those women, and I am ashamed of myself. I'm truly sorry," he said.

"I sincerely apologise to the women, from the bottom of my heart. I promise I will never do anything like that again."

The soap star said he plans to spend the next year working on himself for the sake of his son.

“The only way I can prove how sorry I am to everyone involved is to make changes to my life and work on myself, to ensure this will never ever happen again. I wouldn’t let my son down again.”

According to emerging reports, former Coronation Street actor, Bruno Langley, wept in Manchester Magistrates Court after being told he had put his acting career in jeopardy after sexually assaulting two women in a Manchester music venue,

Langley was accused of grabbing one woman by the crotch and groping another woman's breasts and buttocks on September 30.

Langley, who pleaded guilty to two assaults in the Band on the Wall venue, avoided a potential 12-month prison sentence, but received a 12-month "high-level" community order instead.

In addition to this, Langley must adhere to a strict curfew, pay £250 in compensation to each victim and sign on the sex offenders' register for the next five years.

The judge also ordered that the actor, who acknowledged he has an unhealthy relationship with alcohol, partake in a 40-day rehabilitation activity.

Addressing the defendant, the judge said: "On that evening your conduct was quite disgraceful, indeed degrading. On a number of occasions you sexually assaulted females whilst being on licensed premises."

Issuing a statement in the wake of his court case, the 34-year-old expressed remorse over his conduct on the night in question.

"I sincerely apologise to the people involved and affected by my disgraceful behaviour on the evening of 30th September," he said.

"I have absolutely no memory of what happened because of excessive alcohol consumption and it was for this reason that I behaved completely out of character. However I take full responsibility for my actions that night."

"Since this incident I have been dealing with, and confronting some personal issues that I have never addressed, and I am also getting help for an alcohol problem, so that this does not ever happen again."

Coronation Street actor, Bruno Langley, has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting two women in a Manchester music venue in October.

While appearing at Manchester magistrates court today, the soap star entered two guilty pleas and was told he could face a prison sentence in light of the crimes.

According to emerging reports, 34-year-old Langley admitted that he grabbed one woman by the crotch and groped another's breasts and buttocks at the Band on the Wall music venue.

Prosecutor, Karen Saffman, told the court that Langley was intoxicated on the night of the assaults, and provided details of the assaults to those present.

Reading from a victim impact statement, Saffman said: "He grabbed me. Properly grabbed me. It was a rough grab, really right in. Lots of pressure."

“Even though it was through her dress and tights she could feel two or three fingers,” Saffman continued. “She was clearly in shock. She was thinking about hitting him. She said: ‘Did you do that on purpose?’ But he did not reply.”

It is understood the first victim was approached by another woman who confided she had also been assaulted by Langley that same night.

Langley was sacked by ITV in the wake of the police investigation.

Over the weekend we reported that Coronation Street producers had recently made the decision to write Bruno Langley,  who plays Todd Grimshaw, out of the long-running soap.

It appeared that the decision to axe Langley came following reports that the actor has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault – something Coronation Street bosses denied in a statement relating to the character's departure.

“His contract ended on October 26th following an internal inquiry,” they said. “This inquiry was separate to any police investigation and was independent of any inquiries they are making.”

Today it has been confirmed that the 34-year-old actor has indeed been charged with two counts of sexual assault following an incident on October 1 in Manchester.

A Greater Manchester police spokeswoman said: “Bruno Langley has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and will appear at Manchester magistrates court on Tuesday 28 November 2017."

“At around 1am on Sunday 1 October 2017, police received a report that a woman in her 30s had been sexually assaulted at a music venue on Swan Street in the Northern Quarter.”

Prior to the charges, Langley released a statement referring to his departure from the soap in addition to what appears to be vague reference to his arrest.

"Sadly, I will no longer be working on Coronation Street. Acting on the show has been the fulfilment of a personal dream," he said.

“Playing the role of Todd Grimshaw since I was 17 years old has been a huge part of my life, and an absolute honour. I would like to thank all of my friends who work on the show for their love, friendship and support during this extremely difficult period."

Langley's final scenes will air on Christmas Eve.
