Beauty cheats to keep your make-up looking fresh all day

by

Sometimes we just don't have time to pop into the bathroom every hour to touch up our make-up, and we really shouldn't have to either.

There's no worse feeling than checking the mirror a few hours after you've left the house to see smudged mascara and barely-there foundation staring back at you.

Luckily, there are some easy ways to prep your skin to ensure your make-up stays on as long as possible.

Here are a few tricks to get you started…

Face

Keep your skin in great condition
Dry and parched skin is not a good base for a full face of make-up, so exfoliate well at least every 2-3 days. Each morning, apply a day cream to the skin and allow it to absorb before applying make-up.

Prep the skin for make-up
Primers and serums keep the skin smooth and matte, ensuring your concealer and foundation don't disappear or get wiped off.

Set your make-up
Translucent powder is essential for ensuring foundation stays in place. Use a pressed powder rather than a loose one to avoid that cakey look.

Eyes

Go waterproof
If it's windy outside or your eyes are prone to streaming, a waterproof mascara is essential. Choose a good quality one that won't irritate the eyes.

Choose the right liner
Yes, gel and liquid eyeliners take a bit more care to apply, but they stay on so much longer than a pencil. If you can't live without your kohl pencil, set it by applying dark eyeshadow over it with an angled brush.

Apply eyeshadow like a pro
Absorb any oil on the eyelids by using a base of translucent pressed powder. To get the most out of your pigmented shadow, slightly dampen the brush or applicator before using.

Lips

Keep your lips smooth and kissable
Like the skin, dry and chapped lips won't hold lipstick or gloss, so use an oil-free lip balm regularly and a lip exfoliator if needed.

Prime the lips
A quick dab of tinted moisturiser is perfect for setting the lips up for product and ensuring it stays in place

Use two products instead of one
Using a lip stain followed by a creamy lipstick is an easy way to ensure the colour doesn't fade. For the boldest colour possible, line the lips using a liner or the sharp edge of your lipstick first.
