5 ways to style thin hair

by

When it comes to thin hair, it can be difficult to style. With all the hair ads and haircuts or styles meant for thick hair, it can get you down. You might have tried to do certain hairstyles and haircuts that look great on others, but it just doesn’t work on your hair. How disappointing is that?

Well, the thing is, not everything is going to work for everyone. The same goes for hair products. Thin hair is usually prone to getting greasy more quickly, and this never looks good. So, switching over to shampoo and conditioner for oily hair could fix that problem for you.

Another solution might be a fresh haircut or a new hair colour. But, you might not be ready for that massive change just yet. Getting the hang of new hairstyles is a great way to change it up without the commitment. Hopefully, the following hairstyles will give you other go-to looks that you can do anytime:

Deep Side Part

Here’s an easy hairstyle anyone can do, but it looks perfect for thin hair. Parting hair a little deeper on the side can give an illusion of thicker hair. Give yourself a few curls, spray on some texturizer, and brush it out with your fingers. You can even sleek back the thinner side, add some cute hairclips, and tuck it under your ear to show off your earrings.

Beachy Waves

For this one, you’ll need to use some heat protectant spray to go with the hair wand. Section your hair and curl each section. After curling them, pin them up to cool and retain the curls for a longer time. Usually, thin and straight hair can’t hold a curl for too long. So, pinning them up can make it last longer. After giving the curls some time to cool, you can take out the bobby pins and loosen the curls with your fingers. Flat iron the ends to finish the classic look of beachy waves. Then finish it up with some texturizing spray and hairspray.

Messy Topknot

A messy bun is cute and easy, but there are many methods to get this style. But, not all of them will work for thin hair. Luckily, we have an easy method that will work for thin hair. Start with dry hair, and put it up in a ponytail. Loosely twist up the hair and swirl it upon itself, then secure several parts with bobby pins. Pull out some sections gently but make sure that they don’t fall out. If they do, just pin them back up with bobby pins. Keep pulling strands until it looks larger. You can even loosen the hair on the crown and sides of your head if you don’t want it to look too sleeked back. And, you guessed it, use hairspray.

Half-Down Half-Up

A half-down half-up hairdo is easy, but there are a few steps you can take to make it look more voluminous. First off, when after you get out of the shower, try blow-drying your hair upside down. It’s going to kill your back, but it’ll give your hair more height. Tease the hair on the crown of your head, but try to be as gentle as possible to avoid damage. Apply hairspray to keep the volume from the teased section. Gently brush back the top half of your hair and smoothen out the front pieces to cover up the teased section. Secure the upper half part with an elastic, and use a section of hair to hide the elastic. After that, you can curl the lower section of your hair and the ends of the hair from the tied section. Get some hairspray and make sure that it holds your style all day!

Loose Side Braid

Braids can make any hair look thicker than it is. So, going for this style can be a game-changer for you. Start with a side part, but you can tease it to add more volume at the top too. Then braid all your hair toward the thicker side of the part. Secure it with an elastic, and you can add a ribbon later on. Loosen the pleats of the braid so that it looks bigger and thicker, and you’re done!

These styles are basically the base hairstyles you’ll need to get other styles too. Adding some braids here and there is a good idea to add some cute accents. If you have a thin hairline, bangs are an excellent way to cover it up. They work perfectly for any of these hairstyles too! For more volume, teasing and using dry shampoo will be extremely helpful. Don’t forget to stash on some cute hair accessories to give any hairstyle some sparkles and bling.
