It looks like all of our favourite apps are staring in the dark face of banishment over in the UK.

New laws are set to pass that will see the banishment of WhatsApp, Snapchat and iMessage because they use encrypted messages.

The government views the use of encryption as a potential security threat and they hope to ban the use of those types of messages with the Draft Communications Data Bill, or as it’s more commonly known, the “snooper’s charter.”

The bill stipulates that internet service providers and mobile phone companies are to retain records of each user’s internet browsing activity.

There does seem to be some light at the end of the tunnel though. If the companies restructure their apps to meet the proposed requirements, they will be allowed to stay up and running.

So while the Brits may get to continue using the apps in the future, they may want to think twice before sending any sexy snapchats… you never know just who might be having a snoop.
