More than 50 people have been killed and some 200 injured after a gunman opened fire on crowds at a country music festival in Las Vegas last night.

The growing death toll makes this the worst mass shooting in US history.

Police rushed to to scene on the Las Vegas strip at around 22:30 (05:30 GMT) after they received reports that multiple shots had been fired from the Mandalay Casino near the Route 91 Harvest Festival.

Police have identified the shooter, who was found dead by officers, as Nevada native, Stephen Paddock.

According to The Independent, Las Vegas Sheriff, Joseph Lombard, said the gunman was neutralised in a hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel.

A number of weapons were found in the room and further searchers at this home address are due to take place shortly.
