Aer Lingus and Air New Zealand WIN with epic pre-match banter
Twitter can be a downright painful place at times, but an unlikely duo has just reminded us of the pure comedy gold it can produce.
While we’re still dizzy from Ireland’s historic victory over the All Blacks a fortnight ago in Chicago, this weekend’s return match is set to be even more thrilling.
Despite the fact that New Zealand have declared themselves the ‘underdogs’ going into Saturday’s game, their national airline has served up some fighting talk today!
Hey there @AerLingus! Time for the @AllBlacks vs @IrishRugby, round 2. Not sure how long your lucky shamrock will last! #AirlineChallenge

Kia ora, @FlyAirNZ! Chicago had nothing to do with luck and everything to do with good prep! We’re ready! #AirlineChallenge

Yep, Twitter was all about Aer Lingus versus Air New Zealand this morning, and the banter was only mighty.
It all started with ANZ tweeting: “Hey there Aer Lingus! Time for the All Blacks vs Ireland, round 2. Not sure how long your lucky shamrock will last!”
Of course, our guys weren’t about to leave the ‘#AirlineChallenge’ go, and they promptly replied: “Chicago had nothing to do with luck and everything to do with good prep! We’re ready!”
.@AerLingus Maybe if the @AllBlacks win, we can give you a bit of a makeover? #AirlineChallenge #ProjectBlackout pic.twitter.com/h7Hen08lEb

That's nice, @FlyAirNZ, but haven't you heard? Green is the new black! Remember, we’ve got #HomeAdvantage #AirlineChallenge pic.twitter.com/5kq5pjg8Tu

To say the exchange that followed has won the internet today, would be an understatement.
The airlines went on to trade hilarious ‘barbs’ including some laugh-out-loud suggestions as to how the victors can lord it up over the losers!
So far, if Ireland win, ANZ are looking at an all-green flight ticket makeover, and an Irish overhaul of their in-flight magazine Kia Ora.
.@FlyAirNZ We’ve done you a favour and designed a cover for your in-flight magazine – to be used if we win, of course! #AirlineChallenge pic.twitter.com/HFyYKLzSrT

.@AerLingus Let’s not forget about Cara magazine. Everyone will love it! #AirlineChallenge pic.twitter.com/CZaXr8aEwn

Oh, and someone will have the task of mowing ‘Aer Lingus Welcomes You To Auckland Airport’ into the grass at the landmark – and Christmas carolling is also on the cards!
We know all about gardening, @AerLingus. Perhaps we can do some at @DublinAirport if we win? #AirlineChallenge pic.twitter.com/yoiyrs3wce

Let’s think bigger here, @FlyAirNZ. If you lose, we’d be happy to cut the grass at @AKL_Airport #AirlineChallenge pic.twitter.com/wWHOg87Lz3

No matter who may emerge victorious on Saturday, Aer Lingus and Air New Zealand are total winners in our eyes after that exchange.
