16 celebs and influencers pledge to clearly mark ads after investigation

Sixteen social media stars have been named after an investigation into their practices on social media by the Competition and Markets Authority.

All of the influencers and celebs have agreed to change their ways when it comes to declaring ads and sponsored posts, after warnings from the CMA that their posts could break consumer law in the UK.

The CMA did not make an official decision regarding the influencer's actions.

The influencers include Rita Ora, Michelle Keegan, Ellie Goulding, Alexa Chung, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Alexandra 'Binky' Felstead, Milly Macintosh, Louise Thompson, Zoella, Mario Falcone, Chloe Sims, Megan McKenna, Holly Hagan, Iskra Lawrence, Jim Chapman and Dina Torkia.

All of the mentioned internet celbs have committed to bettering their transparency practices.

If they don't, the BBC reports that they could face up to two years in prison or have to pay substantial fines.

The influencers mentioned were investigated following reports of them breaking the advertising guidelines a number of times.

Posts which have been paid for by brands always need to be clearly labelled with #ad or #spon.

The CMA suggests using the hashtag #freebie when posting about items which have been gifted, to avoid any confusion for the audience.
