Police in England have arrested a second man in connection with the Parsons Green terrorist attack which injured 30 people on Friday morning.

In a statement, the Met's Counter Terrorism Command confirmed that detectives had arrested the 21-year-old in Hounslow at around 11.50pm on Saturday night.

The suspect was then taken to a south London police station where he remains in custody.

The arrest comes after police detained an 18-year-old man after he was found in the departure area of a port in Dover on Saturday morning.

Armed police also raided the home on an elderly couple who have fostered hundreds of disadvantaged children.

Ronald Jones and his wife Penelope, would open their home to up to seven children at a time and according to Elmbridge CAN, a community group that aims to ‘build a culture of welcome to refugees,’ the last eight were refugees.

It is not yet known whether the raid yielded any significant discoveries, though according to Metro.co.uk, a former neighbour of the couple said: “They are such a lovely couple – they would do anything for anyone.”

“You can’t blame her if one of her foster children did something wrong – they were nothing but loving to everyone.”

The terror threat remians at critical and detectives have said they will continue to investigate whether more perpetrators were involved in the attack.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu said:  "At this stage we are keeping an open mind over whether more than one person is responsible for the attack and we are still pursuing numerous lines of inquiry and at great pace."

As Barcelona mourns for the lives of those lost in the horrific terrorist attacks earlier this week, Spanish police have confirmed that the death toll could have been much higher.

13 people died in the attack on Las Ramblas, and up to 100 are injured after the man deliberately drove onto a pedestrian path.

However, the terrorists who were planning the attacks had their ultimate plan foiled, after the house they were storing explosives in blew up accidentally.

It was originally believed that the house was a street drug lab, but it is now reported that a house in the Alcanar region was used to store home made explosives.

After the building was toppled on Wednesday night and the explosives lost, it is reported that those orchestrating the attacks turned to using the vehicles as a weapons instead.

'The explosion in Alcanar stopped larger attacks from happening because they no longer had some of the material they needed,' Catalan police chief Josep Lluis Trapero told Bloomberg.

Police are still looking for the driver of the van and a nationwide man hunt is under way
