While Nicky Byrne has admitted that he was making a return to the music industry this year on his 2FM radio show, we certainly didn't expect him to be taking things international.

And by international we mean representing Ireland in the perhaps the most entertaining and ridiculous music compeition to ever be produced.

Yes, reports have circulated today that Nicky is in talks to fly the Irish flag at Eurovision in Stockholm this May.

"Most people will be shocked as he was never the strongest singer in the band but he’s a great performer, he has good stage presence and he’s very likeable so who knows?" a source has told the Irish Mirror.

“It’s just crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s at this stage but Nicky looks set to following in Jedward’s footsteps and singing at the Eurovision."

“Shane and Mark have their record deals and their albums so maybe the Eurovision could relaunch Nicky’s pop career.”

Married to Bertie Ahern's daughter, Georgina, the 37-year-old father of three has become a popular figure in Irish media.

Following the split of Westlife after 14 years in the business, the former popstar found continued success with his RTE radio show, co-hosted by Jenny Greene, reeling in an average 163,000 listeners.

We are not sure if this means that there will be no televised selection process on the Late Late Show this year, but if we can have Nicky with a decent song to represent us, we don't really mind!

There'll no doubt be huge celebrations in 2fm this morning, as one of the station's most popular presenters has just revealed some briliant news.

Jenny Greene announced last night on social media that she and her long-term girlfriend Kelly Keogh are now engaged. The pair have been an item for almost three years, and Jenny popped the question during a romantic trip to Portugal this week.

The DJ, who co-hosts The Nicky Byrne Show on 2fm, posted a sweet picture of the couple to Facebook and Twitter, and of course didn't hesitate to show off Kelly's gorgeous ring.

"She said yes!" Jenny wrote, alongside a snap of Kelly's square-cut diamond. What a sparkler!

Jenny and Kelly's engagement is timely, given that the Marriage Equality Act was signed into law two weeks ago, allowing same-sex couples to legally marry in Ireland.

Speaking about tying the knot in an interview last year, Jenny said she hoped to do it on Irish soil when the time came.

"I would love to get married in Ireland," she said when asked about the Yes Equality campaign which started last year ahead of the referendum in May 2015.

"I am not a big campaigner and I don’t go out and march. But I think anybody should be allowed to get married if they want to… I don’t have a problem if someone else wants to get married so I don’t understand why they should have a problem with what I do," she said.

Jenny's friends and colleagues, including RTE's Eoghan McDermott and Ciara King, were quick to offer congratulations last night:

We're sure the celebrations will continue in full swing in Portugal today!

This is seriously exciting!

The Voice of Ireland is back for its fifth season this year, and already the show is getting ready to find new talent.

So, if the thought of getting up on stage and singing in front of Bressie and a cheering crowd makes you all tingly, then this is your chance!

RTE will be hosting auditions this coming autumn and you can apply online by sending in an MP3 or a YouTube clip of yourself singing.

And if you win? You will get a record deal with Universal Ireland just like last year’s winner, Patrick James.

Good luck to everyone applying and who knows – we may even be watching you on TV in the not-so-distant future!

A concert is being held to raise funds to help the survivors of the Berkeley balcony collapse.

A number of Irish acts will come together to play a gig at Dublin’s The Academy on July 23rd to raise money to go towards the students that have suffered life-altering injuries from the tragic incident last month.

The event will be hosted by Westlife’s Nicky Byrne. Performing acts include Jape, Dublin Gospel Choir, The Fontaines and many more.

The family of one survivor, 21-year-old Clodagh Cogley, earlier posted photos of the Trinity student in the rehabilitation centre where she is recovering from the fall.

They thanked the public for their support saying that, “The outpouring of support for Clodagh has been truly amazing and the donations to Clodagh’s fund so generous.”

Suffering from a broken spinal cord amongst many other injuries, Clodagh posted a touching message herself last month. She said, “The thing I’m taking from this tragedy is that life is short and I intend to honour those who died by living the happiest and most fulfilling life possible.

“Enjoy a good dance and the feeling of grass beneath your feet like it’s the last time because in this crazy world you never know when it might be.”

Tickets for The Academy gig are €25, with an option to donate extra funds. They are on sale from Ticketmaster tomorrow at 9am.

Westlife star turned radio DJ Nicky Byrne is heading a campaign to encourage more Irish people to use more home-grown mushrooms in their cooking.

The ‘Just Add Mushrooms’ campaign aims to support mushroom farmers throughout Ireland, and Nicky says that his years with Westlife encouraged him to make healthy eating a priority:

“Being on tour with Westlife taught me the importance of a healthy balanced diet, which is something I’ve tried to pass on to my children. It can be hard to get them to eat vegetables sometimes, but mushrooms are very popular in our household, the kids just love them.

“I try to get the whole family involved when I cook with mushrooms, and now that the weather is getting warmer I’ll be trying out some of our favourite BBQ recipes.”

We’ll make sure to shop Irish from now on!

Nicky Byrne of Westlife is reported to be replacing Colm Hayes in the 11am-1pm slot on RTE’s 2fm. It has been said that Colm will be staying with RTE’s 2fm but moving to a different slot.

The move is another shake-up for company since it was taken over by new controller, Dan Healy who believes Nicky will “appeal to young audiences through instant likeability and humour”.

Ryan Tubridy rang Nicky on his own radio show to congratulate him and Nicky told him about his fears and how he was looking forward to the future: “It’s very daunting for me … I’m really, really looking forward to it. I’m very excited.”

This new change comes shortly after it was announced that Hector’s breakfast show would be taken over by Jennifer Maguire, Bernard O’Shea and Keith Walsh.
