When actress Amy Poehler attended the Emmys on Sunday night without Nick Kroll by her side, rumours began spreading that something was amiss.

Rather than bring her boyfriend of two years along, Amy showed up with her pal Brooke Posch by her side instead, and posed for the red carpet alone.

And now we know the reason why, as sources confirm to Us Weekly today that Amy and fellow comedian Nick Kroll have indeed split up.

Nick was Amy's first new relationship following her divorce from Will Arnett in 2012, but apparently the pair just couldn't make things work any longer.

"They really tried, but it just wasn’t realistic anymore,” explains the source, saying the split was a result of that age-old celebrity issue… scheduling conflicts.

"They were spending more time apart than together… Unfortunately, they just couldn’t make the relationship work with their schedules."

Despite finishing up with Parks and Recreation last spring, Amy has had a busy schedule with promotional work for Inside Out, the filming of TWO new TV series, and of course being a mum to her young children, six-year-old Archie and five-year-old Abel.

And while she might well be devastated over the split, we won't be seeing any sad selfies or Instagram quotes about heartbreak from Amy – the actress says social media just isn't for her.

"I'm not a real social media person. I'm not on Twitter," Poehler told Paper magazine recently.

"The amount of Instagram selfies seems crazy out-of-control. 'This is my face and everyone needs to see it all the time,' is so far from the privacy that people used to seek."
