She wowed the world by looking almost impossibly well-groomed and fresh-faced less than 12hours after giving birth to her second child.

At 6 o’clock in the evening standing on the steps of the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital in London on Saturday following the 8.30am birth of Princess Charlotte, Kate Middleton was perfectly radiant. And despite her slim figure, bespoke Jenny Packham dress, and, of course, her gorgeous newborn daughter, the Duchess Of Cambridge’s magnificent hair certainly didn’t go unnoticed.

Rumours have long been abound that the royal relies on strategically-placed hair extensions to give her own natural locks a boost; this weekend will certainly do little to placate the conversation. Before emerging into public, she was looked after by well-to-do hairdresser Amanda Cook Tucker, who was apparently spotted entering the maternity hospital at lunchtime on Saturday, armed with appliances and products.

But speculation is now mounting that even even the best professionals in the business would struggle to create a similarly full, glossy mane without a little helping hand.

The Duchess back in 2011

Speculation as to whether the Duchess’s hair is entirely her own has circulated since her November 2010 engagement, but understandably neither she nor Kensington Palace has ever commented on the matter and she continues to ignite a serious dose of hair-envy in millions of women globally.

“It’s impossible to say for certain unless you’re actually handling her hair,” Gold Fever’s Katie Jane Goldin, whose clients include Rosanna Davison, Georgia Salpa, and Roz Purcell, explains to SHEmazing! “But to have a such an incredible, gorgeous mane without some help from well-positioned extensions would be extremely rare.”

She adds: “So either she’s struck the hair-lottery – or she’s been quite clever in how she uses enhancements.

“These days, the best hair extensions look and feel exactly like your own natural strands do. You’d actually be surprised at how many people from all walks of life wear them.”

More than a few days passed her due date, the Duchess of Cambridge finally went into labour this morning, entering Lindo Wing at 6am today.

Now, after the world spent the day glued to computers and TVs, we can announce that Kate has given birth to her second child – a healthy baby daughter!

Weighing in at eight pounds and three ounces, the newborn's name is yet to be announced.

The baby was born at 8.34am this morning, and betting odds are favouring Alice for the name.

With the arrival of the new Royal, Harry is now fifth in line to the throne; although we doubt he’s thinking about that right now as he celebrates becoming an uncle for the second time.

Like everyone, we’re obviously dying to get our first glimpse of the little Royal, but for now we wish William and Kate all the luck in the world and hope they really cherish this special time.

Congratulations!

Kate Middleton has arrived at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital!

A tweet from Kensington Palace announced the news a little earlier, saying:

The Telegraph stated that a two-car convoy and a number of police motorcycles had been seen leaving Kate's parents' Buckleberry home yesterday morning, sparking speculation the Duchess was en route to the hospital, although it later transpired the car was most likely for the Middleton family themselves.

Later in the day it was reported that another convoy was heading in the direction of St. Mary's Hospital.

The Duchess will give birth in the hospital's exclusive Lindo Wing, as with her first child.

Kate's due date was first thought to be April 25th, though some reports stated it as April 23rd. Either way, she is a number of days overdue and was expected to be induced this week had she not gone into labour naturally. However an increased police presence was noted outside the hospital earlier today, and protection officers were seen entering the doors of the Lindo Wing in the early hours of this morning.

Unlike with the Duchess' first birth, the world's media have been banned from waiting outside the hospital until the official labour announcement was made. Now that the ban has been lifted, hundreds of photographers and reporters are expected to remain outside the Lindo Wing until the birth announcement and Kate and William's first appearance.

Parking restrictions ahead of Kate's admission began over two weeks ago and this week were extended to May 5th.

This will be the second child for who Duke and Duchess, after they welcomed their son George back in 2013. As with George, Kate and William have chosen not to reveal their second baby's gender to the world until he or she is born.

Kate and William are said to be “hugely grateful for the warm wishes they have received from people" over the last few months, according to a spokesperson.

"They know that people are excited that Prince George will soon have a little brother or sister and it means a great deal to them that so many will be celebrating this important moment for their family," the spokesperson added.

The new royal baby will be fourth in line to the throne, pushing Prince Harry to fifth in line.

Looks like there's a very exciting day ahead for the Royal Family… watch this space for more news!

No wonder designers are so keen to send the Duchess of Cambridge their latest designs – as Kate has managed to cause another dress to sell out in a matter of minutes, by simply wearing it.

Kate was visiting a school in North London yesterday when she was photographed wearing her famous red Goat pencil dress.

This was the second outing for the gorgeous pleated dress, but that had no effect on Kate’s admirers who were quick to purchase the dress for themselves yesterday morning.

Matches Fashion revealed that red pencil dress sold out in matter of minutes.

But fear not, the dress is available still online (if you hurry) for €550.

It seems the Kate Middleton effect is as powerful as ever!
