Not thin enough? Gigi defends Mr Hilfiger over THOSE remarks

by

Fans of Gigi Hadid were left stunned last week when iconic fashion designer, Tommy Hilfiger, reportedly suggested that garments worn by the 21-year-old model during a recent show were chosen on account of the fact she wasn't as tall or thin as the other models.

"Our casting director said, 'She doesn't really fit because, you know, she's not quite as tall as the other girls, she's not quite as thin,'" Tom reportedly told Yahoo during about interview on his latest show.

"So they put a red, white and blue poncho on her. It covered a lot of her body unfortunately, but it received millions of hits so I said why don't we ask her to design a line for us."

As media outlets and Gigi's fandom whipped up a storm, Tommy was quick to respond to the controversy in an official statement insisting his comments had been taken out of context.

And while some may assume the designer was simply doing some serious damage control, it sounds like the woman at the centre of the controversy is with him on this one.

Speaking to Access Hollywood in light of last week's story, Kendall's BFF insisted she knew Tommy had nothing but love for her.

"I know that when Tommy said it last week, it was in context of a larger story that wasn't shown," Gigi said.

"Tommy was rooting for me and regardless of what the stylist of that season said or what he put me in, Tommy wanted me in the show, and Tommy was pushing for me and Tommy loved my curves,"
