Model Gigi Hadid has revealed that she suffers from Hashimoto’s disease, a condition which affects the thyroid.

The model faced online criticism for her weight loss in the lead up to this year's Victoria's Secret fashion show and at a Reebok fitness event this week, where her sinewy arms and lean middle were clearly visible.

The star told Elle that she didn’t want to lose weight ahead of the lingerie brand's fashion show in Paris, and blamed her medication for the weight drop.

"My metabolism actually changed like crazy this year. I have Hashimoto's disease," she told the magazine.

"It's a thyroid disease, and it's now been two years since taking the medication for it, so for the VS show I didn't want to lose any more weight, I just want to have muscles in the right place, and if my butt can get a little perkier, then that's good."

Hashimoto's Thyroiditis can slow down the metabolism, cause depression and effect how a person feels temperature, usually making them feel colder.

Treatment involves the use of a synthetic thyroid replacement, which helps the body re-balance it's weight.

"You know, I've never taken a sick day.I feel that pressure of not taking time for yourself because you don't want it to affect your professionalism," the model finished.
