The literature world led tributes as acclaimed Australian author, Colleen McCullough passed away yesterday aged 77.

However, an obituary printed by The Australian newspaper showed just how far female authors have yet to go as it read a disgraceful dissection of her physical appearance rather than her life’s work:

“Colleen McCullough, Australia’s bestselling author, was a charmer. Plain of feature and certainly overweight, she was, nevertheless a woman of wit and warmth. In one interview, she said: ‘I’ve never been into clothes or figure and the interesting thing is I never had any trouble attracting men’.”

Naturally, the world has been outraged by this disgraceful and sexist take on the author of The Thorn Birds, with a very special hashtag going viral on Twitter. #myozobituary sees normal women, and indeed men, try their hand at The Australian’s lovely writing style.

In a humorous take to what is a less-than-funny situation, we took a look at some of them:

Let’s hope that The Australian give Colleen the impressive obituary she deserves at that she is the last female writer, or indeed female ever to endure such shocking words upon her death.
