Chanel No. 5 is one of the most popular perfumes in the world, but soon it could be no more.

A French railway company, SNCF, want to build a high-speed train line through the fields that Chanel use for their perfumes.

May roses and jasmine flowers grow in these fields, which go into every bottle of No.5.

The fashion house has released a letter, saying that if these plans go ahead, they will have to cease production of the iconic perfume.

"The construction of a viaduct and the regular passage of high-speed trains over these fields of flowers would force Chanel to cease supporting its artisanal activities in the region.

It continued to say that the flowers harvested there are "unique and exceptional… and indispensable for the creation of Chanel perfumes."

These sought-after flowers are also used to created Coco, No.5 Eau Premiere and No.5 L'Eau perfumes.

SNCF is arguing that the new train line would improve travel between Marseille and Nice.

Chanel No. 5 was first commissioned in 1921, and was the brain child of Coco Chanel herself.
