Orange is the New Black’s Taylor Schilling opened up about her “painful past” in a recent interview.

Taylor said that she was often bullied as a child due to her “short hair and glasses” and described her childhood as “tough”.

“It was tough at home, and it was tough at school… And my experience was painful, so painful. There was a period of time I had very short hair, and I had glasses, and I was very tall for my age.”

But the 29-year-old actress went on to say that she is no longer “bound” by her appearance, and is finally more comfortable with herself and how she looks.

“I don’t bound by my face or my body. I don’t feel like that’s the biggest gift I have to offer the world. I feel like there are more parts of me to offer than that.”

Taylor also talked about her role of Piper in the hit series and said she loved wearing a prison jumpsuit for most of her episodes.

“It’s totally liberating. There’s a freedom in not having to make it about how my jeans fit or what my boobs look like in a top. All I have to do now is play.”
