Mars food, the company producing Dolmio’s and Uncle Ben's sauces and products, has revealed plans to introduce a new label which will advise shoppers of its products that are high in fat, salt and sugar and should be only eaten “occasionally”.

The company is going to release a list of “occasional” products, which should only be consumed every once in a while, and a list of “everyday” products, as part of its new five year health initiative.

An abundance of Mars goods are high in salt, sugar and fat, but only so they to stay true to their authentic recipe, said the company.

Obviously these products aren't meant to be eaten daily so Mars plans to provide guidance to consumers on the packaging and on its website.

“Our nutrition criteria sets a very high standard for our products, and we also want to help our consumers understand the difference between ‘everyday’ and ‘occasional’ products within a balanced diet,” global president of Mars food, Fiona Dawson said.
