Chaka Khan, known to the world as the Queen of Funk, has entered a rehabilitation facility as a result of an addiction to prescription pills.
Yvonne Stevens, the sister of the ten-time Grammy award winner, has also entered the rehabilitation and aftercare programme.
Chaka Khan was great friends with the late musical legend, Prince, and cited his death as her reason for seeking the help she needs.
"The tragic death of Prince has had us both rethinking and reevaluating our lives and priorities. We knew it was time to take action to save our lives. My sister and I would like to thank everyone for their support, love and prayers" she told the Associated Press on Sunday.
As a result of her time in rehab, Chaka Khan has had to cancel a number of her summer tour dates.
The 63-year-old apologised to her fans saying it was "vital that I put my health and well-being first."
Chaka Khan has battled with addiction for most of her adult life, and spent time in rehab in 2013, for a prescription drug dependence.
