One Gossip Girl actress caused uproar on Instagram with one snap

Jessica Szohr has managed to make some Instagram users very upset with her comments surrounding a much debated topic on social media of late.

Earlier this year, Kylie Jenner got herself into hot water with her selfies in which she drew attention to her braided hair.

People thought the 18-year was being insensitive towards how people appropriate Black culture. Actress Amandla Stenberg was quick to respond, and provided other social media users with an interesting look as to how people would find Kylie’s actions as inappropriate:

She responded to the photograph by writing a comment which read  ''when u appropriate black features and culture but fail to use ur position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards ur wigs instead of police brutality or racism #whitegirlsdoitbetter.”

Now, Gossip Girl actress Jessica has shared a selfie on Instagram, posing in front of what appears to be a cardboard sign with a message.

"Black girls free yourselves from the white standard of beauty and stop wearing weaves," it read. Szohr captioned the black-and-white photo with: #weavefree and #exceptwhenimweaving.

Many of her followers were displeased by what they saw as another person telling them what they can or cannot do with their hair.

"Your mom is white, therefore your hair less coarse than mine/easier to manage. So it's easier for you to dismiss weaves than a black woman with coarser hair would.”

Another wrote: “White people talk about how they don't want black girl's wearing weave yet they can't accept us with our natural hair unless it's flat and silky like theirs. “

Jessica has let the comments keep on rolling, and rather than deleting the image or editing the caption, she instead responded to her commenters individually.

“Let’s all relax, I am mixed and use extensions sometimes, she wrote, then added:

“It was a random message I saw on the side of the street. And who ever wrote that is probably happy you are all typing about it.”
