Did J.K. Rowling just tease a new Harry Potter book?!

by

There was huge excitement in the world of Harry Potter yesterday as J.K. Rowling took to Twitter with a cryptic message.

The buzz started when the author posted an update on Sunday after a brief absence from social media, mentioning that not only was she busy finishing the screenplay for the HP spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but was also "working on a novel":

When a fan got excited about what the unnamed new book could be, the best-selling writer responded…

…And then began taking things further with an even MORE cryptic message:

Why are you teasing us?!

As no-one has solved the riddle yet, speculation is of course rife that it's a teaser for a new Harry Potter book. Avid fans have found the words "Newt Scamander," "New York" and "History" in the puzzling message, which has been re-tweeted over 7,000 times.

Much as we hope that it is indeed a sign of exciting things to come, we reckon Ms. Rowling just felt like flexing her anagramming muscles with some fun riddles! Also, Newt Scamander just so happens to be the fictional author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, so it could all just be a very complex plug for the new film. Booo!

Since finishing the Harry Potter series back in 2007, the celebrity author has branched out from fantasy writing, publishing three books for an older audience – two of which have been under the pen name of Robert Galbraith.
