by

Ibrahim Halawa is on his way back to Ireland this morning, after spending four years in prison in Egypt.

The Dublin native was finally acquitted last month, after being charged with involvement in a protest in Cairo.

The 21-year-old was just 17 at the time of his detainment.

He was released on Thursday and will land back in Ireland today.

'Finally on my way home :)' he captioned an Instagram and Facebook post.

'Thank you to everyone who has caused this moment I love you all so much.'

'Looking forward to finally coming home 🙂 I will arrive Dublin at 11!'

Ibrahim's trail was adjourned 25 times in the last four years.
