The butter debate: Twitter is in combat over where to put the butter

by

The public have spoken!

Up there in harrowing combative conversations with the Barry's vs Lyon's debate is the eternal "where does the butter go?" controversy.

The debate has been raging over on Twitter, with the fridge coming out tops as the appropriate place for the malleable dairy product to reside.

However, not everyone agrees with this answer, and have taken to the social media site to air their grievances.

Some are outraged that people would go through the trial and tribulation of trying to butter a bit of bread with cold, unyielding spread, and claim the counter or the cupboard is the place to be, in butter terms.

And it seems that the experts are on their sides when it comes to this.

According to food safety expert Carol Schlitt, it is perfectly fine to keep butter out of the fridge, but on one condition.

The butter must be kept in an air tight container, and no matter what, it will spoil more quickly than in the fridge.

The best solution?

Carve off the amount of butter you'll need for a few days and keep that on the counter in an sealed container.

The rest of it can chill (literally) in the fridge until its time comes to adorn a delightful slice of toast or add a little something extra to a plate of mashed potato.

Where do you think butter should go?
