Lip balm is one of those things where the more you use, the more you need to use – and it can get VERY annoying.

Weaning yourself off the gooey goodness isn’t easy, but it can be done! Here’s how:

Stop licking your lips
It’s hard to do when you’re not using lip balm, but you should really try. Licking your lips provides them with moisture which just evaporates, taking more moisture with it as it goes, which leaves your lips even more chapped.

Use a different lip balm
One that doesn’t contain menthol or lanolin as these ingredients can irritate your skin, which will have you reaching for the balm once again.

Don’t go cold turkey
Try and make the break slowly. If you use it every hour, try stretch it out to every three hours. When that becomes easier, stretch out the time again until eventually you are lip balm free.

Brush you lips
At the end of the day, brush the dry skin off your lips with an old toothbrush, and then apply some olive oil to give them some moisture for the night.
