No matter what height you're coming in at, there are certain things that will make anyone look shorter than what they really are.

We've figured out the top five things that make us appear shorter, and how to change it:

Your shoes cut you off

How to look taller 101: create a long, vertical line with as few visual interruptions as possible. That's it! Shoes that cut your foot off (like Scarlett's here) will make your leg appear much shorter than it actually is, so opt for skin-baring styles á la swimsuit models who hop on their toes the minute the exit the pool.

Your skirts aren't short enough

If your going to wear a short skirt, go for as short as you can (without looking trashy, obvs). Extending your leg length will always make you look that extra bit taller, but if you want to cover up, opt for a floor-length style as a midi-skirt will make your legs appear shorter.

Your making people look down

Salma on the left is making you look down at her belt and shoes, but Salma on the right is making you look up at her lippy and her keyhole cut-out. If you want to appear taller, showcasing accessories or bold make-up will help keep people focusing looking up rather than down on you.

Your hair is too long

If you're on the shorter side, long hair can be a total distraction; including to your height and even your outfit. Show more skin by donning a short hair cut – it will draw attention to your neck, which is like a lightening rod for your face.

Cut out the cut offs

NEVER give up any trouser style (cullottes, skinny, bootcut, flare) if you're worried about seeming short. You just need to learn how to wear trousers in the right way. Emily on the left has completely shortened herself by cutting her cullottes off at the ankle, where as on the right she lets them flow right down, giving her the look of a longer leg.
