saved by the bell

Dustin Diamond, the actor who played Screech on Saved by the Bell, has been sentenced to four months in jail for stabbing a man during a bar fight.

The 38-year-old was found guilty and convicted of two misdemeanour charges connected with the fight that took place on Christmas Day in a pub in Wisconsin.

A jury convicted the former child star of carrying a concealed weapon and behaving in a disorderly manner.

The fight began when Dustin and his fiancée, Amanda Schutz, were in the bar and a group of allegedly drunk people started verbally harassing them.

According to reports, the actor who played Samuel ‘Screech’ Powers turned to pay his bill, and when he turned back around his fiancée was bleeding and two men were holding her hair.

The report said that “Diamond stated that he did not intentionally stab the individual in the bar but that chaos broke out and people were grabbing at him and that he swung his arms to break free.”

The victim of the stabbing was not seriously injured.

Dustin played Screech on the Saved by the Bell from 1989 to 1993, and the subsequent spinoffs that followed.

Saved By The Bell might have ended way back in 1994, but any Nineties kid will remember watching the re-runs every day on The Den and WISHING they could be as cool as Kelly Kapowski.

If you loved Zack Morris and dreamed of going to Bayside High, you have to see this epic cast reunion.

The whole gang, including Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Zack), Tiffani Thiessen (Kelly), Mario Lopez (Slater), Elizabeth Berkley (Jessie) and even Dennis Haskins (Mr Belding), got together to record a sketch for The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

They haven't changed a bit!

Jimmy himself even appears in the sketch as an aspiring comedian, but it's the Nineties in-jokes that got us laughing, like the oversized mobile phones and the wildly colourful costumes.

The script even brilliantly worked in Tiffani Thiessen's blooming baby bump, with new father Zack saying, "Well on the downside I'll probably be grounded for life, but on the plus side, I got Kelly Kapowski pregnant."

Of course, in real life Tiffani is expecting her second child with husband Brady Smith, and Mark-Paul is currently awaiting his fourth child! Ah, how things change!

Here in the SHEmazing! offices we've been listening to the Saved By The Bell theme tune on repeat since watching the cast reunion. Altogether now, "iiiiit's alright…"

It was an institution for so many of us way back when.

Catching up with Zack, Screech and the gang was the highlight of our day.

Can you believe it’s been 25 YEARS since the first episode aired? We feel old.

But where are the gang now?

Zack Morris
Zack Morris, our teen heartthrob and forever pretend boyfriend, was played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar.

Mark-Paul’s biggest role since SBTB was as Detective John Clark on NYPD Blue and he currently stars as Bash in TV show, Franklin and Bash.

Mark-Paul married Lisa Ann Russell in 1996 but filed for divorce in 2010. The two have two children together, Michael Charles and Ava Lorenn. He later married Catriona McGinn in 2012 and the two have one child, Dekker.

No hope for him and Kelly then? Though they dated in real life for a while, it would appear…no.

Kelly Kapowski
Every girl wanted to be her and every guy wanted to be with her back in the ‘90s.

The side swept hair, the tie dye, the neon…sheer perfection.

Kelly was played by Tiffany Amber Thiessen who also had a lead role in Beverly Hills, 90210 as Valerie Malone.

Many people may also remember Tiffany from her role as Marti in Two Guys and a Girl.

She currently stars as Elizabeth Burke in the TV show, White Collar.

Tiffany has one daughter, Harper, with her husband of nine years, Brady Smith.

Oh, and she’s still hot.

Screech
Ah, Screech…what the hell happened?

Everyone’s favourite lovable guy is not best known for the release of his own sex tape, Screeched – Saved by the Smell. No, seriously. That’s the name.

He also directed it. Now that’s skill.

We don’t really want to talk about it.

Lisa Turtle
Lisa Turtle was played by Lark Voorhies.

Lisa had some serious style, and we wanted her closet.

After the show ended in 1994, Lark had roles in many TV shows such as The Fresh Prince and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Lark has hit the headlines for displaying some worrying behaviour, with her mum and even co-star, Dustin Diamond weighing in on her issues.

She runs her own production company, called You Soy Productions.

A.C. Slater
Probably the most well known of the gang today, Mario Lopez played AC Slater on the show and was loved for his brawn and slicked mullet. Oh yes.

Since then, he has made quite the name for himself as a TV presenter, starring on shows such as The X Factor US.

Mario was married to Courtney Mazza in 2012 and the couple have two children together, Gia and Dominic.

Jessie Spano
The no-nonsense Jessie Spano was played by Elizabeth Berkley on SBTB.

Elizabeth later made a name for herself by playing a stripper in movie, Showgirls, which got a whopping 17% on Rotten Tomates. Eek…

She has since appeared on Dancing with the Stars as well as assorted TV and film work.

Mr. Belding
Mr. Belding was everyone’s favourite principal. We can still remember how his office looks and how he sounded when he said: “Hey, hey hey, what is going on here?!”

Mr. Belding was played by Dennis Haskins who has since made some appearances on popular TV shows (like How I Met Your Mother!)

We would LOVE for a proper Saved By The Bell film, so we could see what happened to all the gang, but we’re going to have to settle for this behind the scenes look at the actors who played the characters back in the day.

Producers are casting actors to play the parts of the actual actors from the TV show in an attempt to portray the real life stories of the cast.

None of the original cast are involved (unsurprisingly) in The Unauthorized Saved By The Bell, but Dylan Evrett from Degrassi: The Next Generation will be playing the role of Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Zach). Sam Kindseth from Shameless will play Diamond (Screech), Julian Works from Modern Family will play Lopez (Slater) and Tiera Skovbye from Supernatural will play Thiessen (Kelly).

Newcomers Taylor Russell McKenzie and Alyssa Lynch will portray Berkley (Jessie) and Voorhies (Lisa).

We’re not sure what this is going to turn out like, but we’ll definitely tune into the made-for-tv film this coming September to find out!
