Commuters have been advised to avoid the M50 southbound this evening after a serious road traffic accident earlier today.

The crash, which occurred at Junction 6 Blanchardstown, happened around 2pm.

According to new reports this evening, one man has passed away after being hit by a truck in the collision.

Traffic on the motorway has been diverted up a slip road at Junction 6 to rejoin the main road after the crash site.

Some motorists have taken to social media to warn other drives of expected delays:

It is hoped that the third lane on the M50 South at Junction 6 will be cleared shortly, and that all remaining lanes will be reopened too, after an examination by Gardaí.

Over the weekend a woman passed away following Wednesday's large-scale M50 crash, which saw the motorway closed for a number of hours.
