We rarely see Lorde without her signature curls, but we have to say, we're loving her new look.

The New Zealand singer stepped out in the red carpet this week with a VERY uncharacteristic style – straight shoulder-length locks, slicked back at the top.

After admitting she was exhausted and run down during New York Fashion Week back in September – she even proudly showed off her eye infection on social media – the singer has been quiet on the social front.

But her appearance at this week's CFDA Awards was all it took to cement Lorde as our style queen once again.

Aside from her drastically different hair, the 18-year-old rocked a flowing black silk and lace number, teaming a gothic-style dress with flared silk trousers.

And she seemed delighted with her new look, taking to Instagram to post some snaps of the evening.

The awards, also known as the Vogue Fashion Funds Awards, took place at New York's Spring Studios.

But after rubbing noses with the likes of Karlie Kloss, Amanda Seyfried and Riccardo Tisci at the glam event, Lorde seemed happy to keep the rest of her night low key, heading for a drink with music producer Ron Perry.

"And as soon as the party finished I combed my fingers through my hair, threw on my boiler suit and yeezys and met the world's greatest publisher for a drink," she wrote next to a selfie of herself in a decidedly more relaxed outfit.
