It has been reported that at least 35 people have been injured in an explosion in New York City.

The injured are being treated following the explosion which took place at an apartment block in West Broadway and Murray Street in Lower Manhattan.

According to various news outlets, one person is in a critical condition.

Apparently, the explosion was caused by a carbon monoxide gas leak after the basement of the apartment block caught on fire.

Further reports are stating that in a separate incident, police are investigating a suspicious package found just three blocks away from Ground Zero.
