While Ryanair have laid on extra flights to facilitate football fans hell-bent on seeing the boys in green take on France this Sunday, not all of us will be able to make the journey.

With that in mind, Labour party leader, Brendan Howlin, today suggested that a fanzone be set up in the capital this weekend, and it looks like it's paid off!

Putting the proposal into motion, Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald turned to Local Planning Minister Simon Coveney who, according to The Independent, pitched the idea to Dublin City Council.

"Government can certainly approach the relevant bodies, we handled the public screening of the results of the marriage equality referendum very well in Dublin Castle so I'm sure that can be replicated," Ms. Fitzgerald said at the time.

Having gotten word that the plan can go ahead, Ms. Fitzgerald has confirmed that giant screens will be erected in Smithfield on Sunday.

While full details of the event have yet to be released, you can expect to hear more later today!

We know where we'll be this Sunday!
