LeAnn Rimes marriage from her backing dancer Dean Sheremet ended explosively back in 2009 when it was revealed she had cheated on him with her TV co-star Eddie Cibrian.

Dean and LeAnn had been married for seven years when the scandal emerged, having met when the Can't Fight The Moonlight singer was just 18.

Now Dean has opened up for the first time about his and LeAnn's relationship, saying that divorcing him was the "dumbest" thing she could have done for her career.

"The need for me in her life was so strong. There were things she couldn’t do without me. She had her own phone but never used it. People would call me to get to her. Everything went through me," said Dean. "The dumbest thing she ever did for her career was divorce me… Because we were such a good team. The last hit song she had was when she was with me."

Although both of them have since re-married, Dean said he still stings when he thinks of the moment he realised there was something going on between LeAnn and Eddie. "All of a sudden, there was a huge shift. I totally felt foolish. I felt like this pathetic husband hanging around. I was very aware of how others were looking at me."

He also added that LeAnn craves fame and attention constantly, something which added to their marriage breakdown. "She really lives on the adoration of others… She lives and dies on the perception of herself. I sympathise with that cause she’s been famous since she was 12 years old so she doesn’t know anything else."

LeAnn went on to marry Eddie in December 2010, just over a year after divorcing Dean.

Speaking about her decision at the time, the singer said she didn't regret her choice. "I take responsibility for everything I've done. I hate that people got hurt, but I don't regret the outcome," she told People magazine.

Wow… definitely no chance of a reunion, so…
