So when we came across this story about a fox trapped in Cork, we were delighted to hear that he was given a new home – and one he chose for himself.

A family in Cork city noticed that a fox was unable to escape from their garden, and even after many attempts of leaving a ladder and food to entice him to go back out into the wild, it failed.

The family decided to call the Cork Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals who came and successfully removed the trapped fox.

The CSPCA released the fox on a beach in the countryside of Cork so it could be comfortable and get its bearings before deciding whether to go back to the city or start a new life in the country.

CSPCA worker Vincent Cashman said: "They are not a threat to humans, they are not a risk, but we encourage people not to feed them as it usually brings them back.

"They are not a problem for humans but it really is best to not go near them."
