The Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment is a growing alliance of over 80 organisations who believe that the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution must be repealed 'in order to respect and protect the lives, health and choices of women in Ireland.'

The coalition includes human rights organisations, feminist and pro-choice organisations, trade unions, health organisations, NGOs and community organisations.

Now, the the first regional branch of the Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment is about to be launched.

A Cork-based branch of the Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment will be officially launched tomorrow.
 
The Cork Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment will be made up of 15 Cork-based groups including activist organisations, civic groups, trade unions and political parties.

'We’re really looking forward to the official launch of the Cork branch of the Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment,' said Ailbhe Smyth, Convener of the Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment

'It’s very encouraging to see the movement to repeal the Eighth Amendment gaining momentum nationally and at great speed, and we look forward to our Cork branch leading the charge for repealing the Eighth Amendment in Cork.'

The coalition has organised a rally this coming Saturday to call for an 'immediate referendum to repeal the Eighth Amendment from the Constitution in order to respect and protect women’s lives, health and choices.'

The Rally to Repeal the 8th Amendment will be kicking off from Central Bank, Dame Street, Dublin, at 3pm, and Eyre Square, Galway at 2pm.
