Melanie Martinez has been accused of rape and sexual assault by former friend Timothy Heller.

The singer, who is known for her appearances on The Voice as well as her debut platinum selling album Doll House, has responded to the allegations.

Heller took to Twitter to claim that she had been forced to engage in sexual activity with Martinez despite repeatedly saying no.

Speaking about the alleged incident, Heller told her Twitter followers that she and Martinez had been close friends, but that their friendship had always been all about Martinez.

During one sleepover, Martinez pressured Heller to engage in sexual activity. Heller claims that she refused multiple times, citing that she had a boyfriend.

'I lay still, in shock, completely not reciprocating,' she detailed, after claiming that Martinez began to touch her inappropriately.

She then states that Martinez performed nonconsensual oral sex on her and penetrative sex using a sex toy.

'If you begin to doubt the abuse taking place in this story, I beg you to imagine her role in this being a man,' reads Heller's Twitter statement.

'Girls can rape girls. Best friends can rape best friends.'
