‘Grease: Live’ plays a touching tribute to Vanessa Hudgens’ father

The build-up to Vanessa Hudgens playing Rizzo in Grease has been coming up fast.

She's probably the best girl around for the job, but then she hit a standstill when her father, Greg, passed away one day before the show debuted.

"I am so sad to say that last night my daddy, Greg passed away from stage 4 cancer. Thank you to everyone who kept him in your prayers," she wrote on social media.

But it's clear that Vanessa us true to her art, as she still performed the opening night. "Tonight, I do the show in his honour," she added on Twitter.

And she did just that.

As the actors and actresses took a bow in front of the Grease Ferris wheel, a message came up at the bottom of the screen. 

"In loving memory of Greg Hudgens. June 22, 1950 – January 30, 2016," the tribute read.

And Vanessa's long-time BFF, Ashley Tisdale was supporting here friend all the way though.

"There's My Girl @VanessaHudgens!!! #GreaseLive," she wrote on Twitter.
