Christina Milian left heartbroken after death of newborn nephew

by

Just hours after welcoming her nephew Richie into the world yesterday, singer Christina Milian was forced to say goodbye.

The star took to Instagram last night to bid farewell to the tragic baby boy, who was born with the birth defect Omphalocele, in which the baby's organs form outside of the body. Christina's sister, Danielle Milian, was first told of the defect when she went for a routine ultrasound scan back in March.

Doctors advised Danielle and her husband Richard, who have two other children, to terminate the pregnancy. However they decided instead to give their baby a small chance at life.

Little Richie was born yesterday afternoon, with his mum posting to Instagram to say he was "already a fighter." However last night he sadly passed away, surrounded by family.

Taking to social media herself today, Christina seemed shellshocked by the loss of her nephew.

"The last 24 hours have been an emotional roller coaster but i'd like to thank everyone for being so supportive throughout my sister Danielle & Richards pregnancy," she wrote, posting a picture of Richie's tiny foot wrapped in a bandage.

"Our family was blessed to have met our little Angel Baby Richie. We were fighting for him and with him the whole way and are now coping with the direction in which fate took…His memory will forever live on in our thoughts and our hearts."

Danielle also shared her own heartbreaking tribute to her son writing, "Yesterday I was blessed with the birth of my Richie Bear. Unfortunately, last night he took his place with the Lord and we said goodbye. I so appreciate the prayers and support from everyone. He touched my heart and was perfect in so many ways."

Our thoughts are with Christina, Danielle and their family at this tough time.
