Rebecca Storm and Sea of Change Choir to Perform in Dublin Concert
There are certain events that make you stop scrolling and actually pay attention. A concert at the RDS featuring musical theatre legend Rebecca Storm and a 55-strong choir of cancer survivors — raising funds and awareness around violence against women — is absolutely one of them.
On Wednesday, 25th November, the RDS Concert Hall in Dublin will host a special afternoon concert marking the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The event is being organised by Opportunities for Women and Soroptimist Ireland, and a portion of ticket proceeds will go directly to Safe Ireland, the social change agency working to eradicate domestic, sexual, gender and sexuality-based violence in this country.

If you grew up in Ireland in the 80s or 90s, chances are you know Rebecca Storm’s voice. The Kildare-based singer became a household name with songs like The Show and went on to lead iconic productions including Blood Brothers and Les Misérables. She’ll headline the afternoon concert and has said she’s genuinely moved to be part of it.
“I am honoured to be commemorating such a momentous day,” she said. And honestly, with a voice like hers in a venue like the RDS Concert Hall, it’s going to be something special.

Joining her will be the Sea of Change choir — 55 women, many of them cancer survivors, who’ve already captured hearts on Ireland’s Got Talent, Britain’s Got Talent and performed at Electric Picnic. Choir spokesperson Deirdre Featherstone put it simply: “As a choir of strong women, to be able to sing at this amazing event is wonderful. We are so very proud to sing for women all over the world suffering violence against them.”
More than a concert
The afternoon will run from 1pm and will also include speeches from leaders of women’s organisations and representatives from the UN’s International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in Ireland. IOM Chief of Mission Zuzana Vatralova will be among those speaking, and the figures she’s putting forward are stark.

“A shocking 840 million women globally, including many migrant women, have been subjected to physical or sexual violence at least once in their life,” she said. “Online abuse is also of significant concern that must be addressed.” The concert will also mark the opening of the global 16-day campaign against gender-based violence — a campaign that calls on all of us to stand up for the protection of women and girls.
Concert organiser Alison McNamara of Opportunities for Women described November 25th as a “powerful day” for coming together.

“This will be an inspiring concert in the hugely historic RDS Concert Hall raising awareness of an important issue that needs to be addressed. Events like this bring great hope for the future,” she said.
