A crane has collapsed in lower Manhattan this morning killing at least one pedestrian.
The fatal accident took place at a construction site in the city and first responders are currently at the scene.
The pedestrian who lost his life is believed to have been male and in his thirties while two others are in hospital with serious injuries.
Several witnesses reported hearing a loud snap before the huge crane collapsed, crushing several cars parked on the street below.
"It was right outside my window," a witness told the AP News agency.
"It was a crashing sound. You could feel the vibration in the building. I looked out the window and saw it lying in the street."
While there is no official reports as to how and why the incident occurred as of yet, the base of the crane appears to have been totally overturned in photos taken at the scene.
