‘Voting for their neighbours’: Nicky Byrne opens up on Eurovision loss

It's safe to say that everyone thinks Nicky Bryne did a fabulous job representing Ireland last night in the Eurovision semi-final.

Unfortunately, we lost out and won't be making our way to the finals, but Nicky spoke to 2FM today to tell us why he thinks we were shipped out so early.

He said: “I had fun, it was an amazing experience. Lots of people are saying stuff that the likes of Ukraine, Serbia, Latvia and Lithuania, a lot of people are telling me this morning that they tend to vote for each other to make sure they’re all in the final.

“Because they’re all against Russia, whether you can believe that or not, I’m not sure.

“What I do know is that the likes of Ireland, Denmark and Norway, and the night before Finland and Iceland didn’t qualify.

“The western European countries are out."

The singer believes that the odds were against us because people are voting for the countries next to their own (which always kinda happens, tbh).

“Maybe Sweden is in with a chance to win again this year because I suppose all the Nordic countries and Scandinavian countries aren’t in it now, so who will they vote for?

“That’s if you go for them voting for their neighbours.”

Nicky also thanked Ireland for backing him all the way to Sweden and apologied for not winning.

It's OK Nicky, there's always next year!
