Trackies and heels are IN – and you DON’T need to be Cara to pull it off

by

While I could defo give Georgia May Jagger a run for her money with my tooth-gap, I've now realised at the grand old age of 27 that I'm sadly not going to become a catwalk model.

Still, when it comes to fashion I most certainly ascribe to our trusted SHEmazing philosophy: whether it's on the runway, within the glossy pages of a magazine, or on the body of my favourite celebrity; a trend is just as much mine for the taking as it is for anyone else.

And when I got my hands on the September issue of Vogue (yup, it's my bible), I had a proverbial freak-out over a seriously awesome shoot featuring the Brow Goddess herself, Cara Delevingne.

Sure, the styling in Vogue is ALWAYS top-notch, but there is just something so, well, ordinary about what the creative artists did here: six pages of Cara wearing nothing but tracksuit tops and pants. Imagine it! Dressing the world's most successful model in what pretty much amounts to our hungover Sunday get-up.

So understandably, something about that concept really struck me: international top model, THE edition of THE fashion bible… combined with something most of us have lying in our bottom drawer.

But then, trackies are very much IN (or so says the fashion pack). So, what's the new-season twist here? What's changed to make leisurewear work so damn well beyond the gym?

The answer is simple: you just need to dress it up.

With that in mind, I decided to formalise my trackies in the simplest way I could think of: adding high heels.

Look 1

There aren't many outfits that a crisp white shirt can't smarten up, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that this Cos number was a match made in heaven for my ADIDAS cuffed trackies. Pop on some pale pink courts, and I was ready to hit the office.

Look 2

A blouse-and-leather jacket combo will always channel dressy-casual, which is comforting to know when you're throwing an outfit together, like I was for this look. I chose my go-to gladiators (with chunky heel) for this more relaxed vibe – you don't have to go super-smart or super-high with your heels to make this trend work.

Look 3

I like to think that, in another life, I was some sort of legendary rapper (yeah, I know), and this super-casual look is a total homage to that creative side of my personality. It's amazing what a pair of heels can do to an outfit – I literally wear these three-quarter leggings to work out!

Long live the athleisure trend, ladies!
