This ONE tweet just summed up what’s wrong with Pistorius’ ruling

Oscar Pistorius was sentenced to six years in prison for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp, and one journalist has just pointed out the problem with his sentence.

Bloomberg reporter Kevin Crowley posted this on Twitter shortly after Oscar's ruling today:

Posting a picture of Reeva and a rhino side by side, Kevin made out a stark disparity in the severity of South Africa's sentencing laws.

He captioned the picture: "SA courts gave Mandla Chauke 77 years for killing a #rhino, #OscarPistorius six years for killing Reeva. #justice?"

In 2011, Mandla Chauke was arrested for killing three rhino calves in Kruger National Park.

His arrest backfired and turned into an exchange of gunfire with his team and the police, which ultimately killed his associate Samson Msimango.

The 77-year sentence was one of the heaviest seen. It was aimed at preventing illegal trade of animals in the future and also to protect poaching laws in South Africa.

However, Oscar Pistorius was found guilty of manslaughter and given a five year sentence by an appeals court in 2014.

But today's ruling upgraded his sentence to murder, which can see the guilty spend a minimum of 15 years behind bars. Oscar was sentenced to six.

Now, the murder of a rhino for profit is inexcusable. It's horrible and undeniably cruel. Nevertheless, the contrast between both sentences is something to think about.

Kevin's tweet has been retweeted nearly 2,000 times.
