Mother Teresa has officially been made a Saint by Pope Francis

Mother Teresa has been officially named a saint as a result of dedicating her entire life to working with the poor in India.

The canonisation of Mother Teresa comes just 19 years after her death, which for a sainthood is a short amount of time.

Pope Francis made the sainthood official this afternoon in front of 120,000 people in St. Peter's Square in Vatican City.

The inspirational woman was canonised as Saint Teresa of Kolkata, which is what she will be known as from now on.

The service was in Latin, but the Pope's words translated to: "She made her voice heard before the powers of this world, so that they might recognise their guilt for the crime of poverty they created. May she be your model of holiness."

Apparently Queen Sofia of Spain was part of the large crowd that attended the ceremony.

Also in attendance was hundreds of nuns from the sisterhood Teresa started and 1,500 homeless people that were treated to lunch at the Vatican afterwards!

What a lovely story!
