Casual chic: Ways to wear your denim jacket this spring

Now that the warmer weather has (just about) arrived, we're keen to relegate our winter coat to the back of the wardrobe.

Sunshine or not though, this is still Ireland, and we'd never dare to venture outside without some kind of jacket. That's why we're definitely going to be giving our trusty denim jacket a look-in this season. It's the perfect spring cover-up that looks effortlessly stylish, too.

And the real advantage? There are SO many ways to style one that you can pretty much wear it whatever the occasion. Here are our favourite ways to wear the humble denim jacket…

1. Keep it simple
The "draped" look is very Fashion Week, and whether it's a pastel wool coat or an oversized denim jacket, it looks slick and chic. We're loving this street style maven's choice:

2. Seeing double
The "Canadian Tuxedo" look might have a bad reputation but when done right, it can look very sleek. Just be sure not to wear all one shade of denim. Cameron Diaz gets it right:

3. Waist not, want not
A denim jacket tied on the hips over a dress or a pair of skinnies is the ultimate casual spring look that will take you right into next season. Bar Rafaeli is giving us serious style envy:

4. One size up
An oversized denim jacket can be worn as you would a blazer – it's perfect over a sundress or a skater skirt. How gorgeous is this street styler's one?

5. Fun and flirty
A shorter denim jacket over a high-waisted or skater skirt is a really fun look that goes perfectly with ankle boots á la Miranda Kerr:

6. Let the sunshine in
Team your jacket with a sundress and sandals or boots and you're good to go in warmer weather, just like Pippa Middleton:
