A century of thrills : Lawlor’s of Naas Novice Hurdle takes place Friday January 12th

The stakes are high, the excitement palpable, but unfortunately due to surprising turn of events the Grade One Lawlor’s of Naas Novice Hurdle, a stellar race event held at Naas Racecourse, was postponed (Sunday 7th January) due to unforeseen fog which severely affected visibility at the racecourse, prompting officials to reschedule the much anticipated event. The Grade One Lawlor’s of Naas Novice Hurdle is now set to take place at Naas Racecourse on Friday January 12th with post time scheduled for 12.42.

As the first major race of 2024, it promises to be a harbinger of racing excellence, revealing which equine talents are destined to make waves throughout the season. Sponsored for the ninth consecutive year by Lawlor’s of Naas, this prestigious race has been graced by legendary winners like Bob Linger and Envoi Allen, both of whom went on to triumph at the Cheltenham Festival.

Dee Nix, CEO of Lawlor’s of Naas, shared her disappointment stating, “we were all disappointed that the racing had to be cancelled but delighted that it has been rescheduled as Naas Racecourse is a fantastic amenity on our doorstep and this race meeting really kicks off the new year. We are looking forward to welcoming racegoers before and after the races this Friday.”

In a year of milestones, Naas Racecourse celebrates its centenary, marking a century of thrilling races and unforgettable moments. To commemorate this special occasion, the racecourse is launching a collector’s item, “The Centenary of Naas Racecourse,” a special book that delves into the rich history and legacy of this iconic racing venue.

Points of interest for racegoers include the Lawlor’s of Naas four star hotel, conveniently within walking distance of Naas Racecourse. With pre and post-race drinks and dining options, the hotel is the perfect hub to enthusiasts looking to extend the thrill of race day. An overnight stay this Thursday and Friday is €149 per night bed and breakfast.

As the horses thunder down the track, and the spectators cheer, the Lawlor’s of Naas Novice Hurdle promises an unforgettable start to a century of racing legacy.
