Worried about acne scars? This new filler could be your saviour

For anyone worried about ageing lines and wrinkles or dreaded acne scars, you can now jump for joy as there's a new filler on the market called Bellafill

Bellafill is recently FDA approved, and is also the first of it's kind.

Yes, we know fillers for fine lines and wrinkles have been around donkey's years but Bellafill claims to safely last for five years as opposed to six to nine months like other fillers.

The filler was first introduced to treat nasolabial folds (which are your smile lines and so on), but it is also the first FDA-approved dermal filler for acne scars to hit the market.

The brand received approval based on its study that showed 90 percent of 1,008 patients who used Bellafill treatments for fine lines retained effects after five years.

Dermatologist, Ruth Tedaldi, commented on the results of Bellafill: “The results from this nasolabial fold study provide strong supporting evidence of the long-term safety and expected long-term effectiveness profile that may be experienced by acne scar patients treated with Bellafill."

"This is because the method of use and type of skin in treating nasolabial folds and acne scars are similar.”

Right now, popular fillers on the market are made up of hyaluronic acid. Bellafill, on the other hand, is mostly composed of collagen and PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate microspheres – what a mouthful!), which work hand in hand.

After injection, the body absorbs the collagen, while the PMMA sticks around to plump the areas.

Dr. Ruth says if you're worried about side effects, there's only potential minimal ones like bruising, swelling or redness – but they will go down in a few days.
